Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, says he would prefer Peter Obi pursue his presidential ambition in the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
However, Ihedioha welcomed Obi’s decision to defect to Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, saying he would not leave the party.
A post on his X page said the former Speaker of the House of Representatives said he has a common aspiration for a better Nigeria with Obi.
Over the past year, we have deliberately and steadily worked to build a coalition of well-meaning Nigerians under the platform of the African Democratic Congress,” he wrote.
“Our mission has been clear: to provide good governance for the people of Nigeria and to build a nation that is accountable, inclusive and prosperous.
“On Sunday, May 3, 2026, my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi decided to join the NDC in his quest for his political aspiration.
I would have liked to have seen this ambition pursued within the ADC but I accept that in a democracy, every leader has the right to take political decisions guided by conviction. “I respect his decision and I wish him all the best.
