The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to improve operational effectiveness and institutional performance with the introduction of a standardized evaluation framework that is set to boost accountability and professionalism across its formations and units.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Aniele on Tuesday April 29, 2026 after a sensitisation seminar organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites, Asokoro, Abuja.
The statement said the seminar brought together senior officers and stakeholders to deepen understanding of structured performance assessment mechanisms aimed at fostering discipline and enhancing operational outcomes.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Military Secretary (Army), Maj Gen Everest Okoro, said in his opening remarks that the seminar was a major milestone in the drive for institutional excellence in the Army.
“The Department of Standards and Evaluation is the Army’s quality assurance arm that ensures compliance with established benchmarks, performs combat-readiness assessments and evaluates operational activities throughout units,” he said.
“These measures are designed to identify strengths, address gaps and ensure continuous improvement in operational performance,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Earlier, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Maj Gen Bobby Ugiagbe, said the seminar was aimed at promoting the systematic application of standards across the Nigerian Army towards enhancing discipline, professionalism and effectiveness.
He said the initiative would help institutionalise standard evaluation practices to improve overall performance outcomes.
The release added that the seminar is a reflection of the Nigerian Army’s resolve to entrench a culture of accountability, precision and continuous improvement in line with global best practice.
