Abdullahi Yakasai, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement in the Northwest, has insisted that the president still enjoys the strong backing of the North ahead of next year’s general elections.
Yakasai dismissed speculation that Tinubu has lost Northern support during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday.
He termed such claims as political posturing of opposition parties ahead of 2027 elections.
“For someone to say that the political base and the support that Mr. President has been enjoying is no more there in the Northwest, I think these are just political negative statements.
“I think the northern part of this country should be happy with what Mr. President has done, honestly,” he said.
Yakasai said President Tinubu had taken key steps to strengthen governance and development at the grassroots level in response to concerns over deteriorating living conditions.
Many responsibilities related to the welfare of citizens don’t belong only to the federal government, he said, but to state and local governments as well.
