Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck is in hot water after making a controversial statement about hip-hop.

The ‘Declan Rice’ crooner stirred up new controversy after re-iterating Wizkid’s infamous claim that hip-hop music is no more relevant.

Odumodublvck boldly declared “Hip Hop is dead” reacting to a list of Nigerian artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify currently via X, referencing the conspicuous absence of Nigerian rappers from the list.

The post elicited mixed reactions with many berating him for disrespecting the genre while arguing that the hip-hop is still much relevant outside Nigeria.

Although Nigeria boasts veteran and emerging rappers, currently, no hip-hop artists are represented in the list of Nigerian artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify, with the top 10 all being singers.

Burna Boy leads the list with 40.68 million listeners while Tems follows closely with 40.64 million listeners.

Rema is number 3 with 29.43million listeners. Ayra Starr and Wizkid are numbers 4 and 5 with 16.84 and 16.81 million listeners respectively.

Omah Lay (11.24m), Davido (10.83m), CKay (10.71m), Fireboy DML (9.23m) and Asake (8.69m) round out the top 10.
