Oshiomhole Supports Tougher Measures Against Criminal Elements

The Senator representing Edo North in the National Assembly, Adams Oshiomhole, has lauded the death penalty introduced by the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, against kidnappers and bandits.

Oshiomhole spoke at the flag-off of the Edo North Senatorial District local government election campaign at the Public Field, Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

He said civil liberties had been restored in Edo State under the administration of Governor Okpebholo, adding that only criminals had reasons to fear the state.

”I stand here to fully support the statement of the governor of Edo State that we are in a federation where each state is entitled to make laws on punishment as it concerns state offences. “So kidnappers and bandits will be shot dead,” he said.

He also reiterated his support for the creation of state police, saying it would complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in addressing insecurity.

Governor Okpebholo, who also spoke, said his administration would continue to work for the development and well-being of Edo people, adding that many projects had been started in the state.

He said the government has launched major infrastructure projects such as roads, schools and markets to improve the lives of residents.

“We have embarked on massive infrastructural development in the state, including roads, schools, markets and others. “These were not there in the past, but this administration has made them possible,” the governor said.

He also lauded President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying the policy had created more resources for state governments for development projects.

“The removal of fuel subsidy has freed more funds to governors across the country for the development of their states. “This is the money we are using as a government to develop Edo State through massive road construction, schools and other infrastructure projects,” he said.

The governor said the campaign was an opportunity to introduce the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates to voters and called on party supporters to work towards delivering 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

He also applauded the completion of the rehabilitation work on the Auchi-Ekpoma-Benin Road, which he said was a major achievement of the Tinubu administration.

The party members were urged by Okpebholo to mobilise support, campaign effectively and ensure victory for APC candidates in the forthcoming local government election.
