The All Progressives Congress (APC) national leadership is hopeful that they will win back Osun State in the 2026 governorship election.

Reports say that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the election date for August 8.

Ademola Adeleke, the current governor, won the 2022 election against Gboyega Oyetola, the former governor of the APC.

After a crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adeleke switched to the Accord Party, where he is running for a second term.

But some people are worried about the party’s lack of support from regular people in the state, which could hurt his chances.

The next election is expected to be very competitive, and with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) joining the race, it will become a three-horse race.

Rauf Aregbesola, the party’s National Secretary, is still an important political figure in Osun.

Ajibola Basiru, the APC National Secretary, said during a national media chat on Wednesday that the poll would be very competitive.

“The election in Osun is going to be hard.” We are very sure that setting up a grassroots campaign is part of the strategy we are using, he said.

Basiru said that the party had started to get its structures ready across the state, including federal constituencies, senatorial districts, and important groups.

“When I was in Osun, I was able to meet with the federal constituency structure, the senatorial campaign structure, and of course the state campaign structure. “I was also able to meet with the student and women’s groups that were working to get our party elected,” he said.

The APC’s national secretary said that the party would use data to help them win.

“We believe in a data-driven process to make sure we win that election, without going into too much detail about strategy,” he said.
