Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has pulled out of the 2027 Oyo State governorship race following his loss of the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Adelabu announced his withdrawal in a statement personally signed by him on Thursday, titled, ‘APC Nomination Process in Oyo State: Closing the Contest, Not Admitting the Injustice’.
The former minister said that his decision to quit the race did not mean that he was accepting the alleged injustice that characterized the party’s governorship primary in the state.
He partly ascribed his decision to deep thinking and strategic re-assessment of recent developments in the party and the way forward.
The former minister said he was taking a short break abroad to “recharge” from the “intensity and challenges” of the last few months before returning to consult with party leaders and supporters.
On his return, he said he held meetings with party leaders and some of his supporters across the state, noting that the concerns raised by party members, aspirants and stakeholders were reviewed. He said the concerns also touched on nominations for the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.
We agreed that the lack of publicly declared and verifiable results has understandably raised serious concerns about the transparency, credibility and integrity of the nomination process.
“We also agreed that there are substantial documentary materials, authenticated collation records and video evidence which, in our considered view, raise serious questions about aspects of the process and the eventual outcomes,” Adelabu said.
