Oyo Terror Assault: Police Chief Disu Directs Intensified Search And Rescue Operations

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu has visited Oyo State following the tragic attack and abduction incident that happened in Oriire Local Government Area of the State in the early hours of Friday, 15th May, 2026.

The IGP said he was “deeply saddened” by the incident and “extended heartfelt condolences” to the families of the attack victims.

He was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, due to the strategic closeness of the Oriire axis to communities bordering Kwara State, as well as the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle.

During the visit, the Inspector-General also met with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga and other security stakeholders. He was given operational briefings on the ongoing rescue efforts and security deployments across the affected communities.

The IGP reassured residents, parents and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified coordinated search and rescue operations, intelligence gathering and tactical deployments to ensure the safe return of all abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

He denounced the attack as cruel and unacceptable and reiterated that no effort would be spared in restoring normalcy to the affected communities.

The Inspector-General also directed that more tactical and intelligence assets be deployed to strengthen the ongoing operations in the area and adjoining forests.
