Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, is dead.
The death of the monarch was confirmed by a palace source to our correspondent by telephone on Friday, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The source said he died at his home in Ibadan after a short illness. The source added that a delegation from Omo Oye had earlier visited the late chief’s home following the news of his demise.
Oba Isioye-Dada held the exalted title of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, which is one of the prominent chieftaincy titles in the traditional structure of the ancient city, until his death.
His death is expected to throw up a chain of promotions within the Balogun line of the Ibadan chieftaincy system, which will affect many chiefs and high chiefs, including the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant, Sharafadeen Ali.
Senator Ali is expected to move up from the position of Ekaarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland according to the traditional succession structure and with the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Similarly, the process of succession is still ongoing, with Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin expected to rise from the Ekerin Balogun to the Asipa Balogun of Ibadanland.
