The Social Democratic Party, SDP, North-West Zonal Congress has elected new zonal officials, with Hon. Salihu Suleiman from Kaduna emerging as National Vice Chairman for the zone.
This was contained in a statement signed by the chairman and secretary of the electoral committee, Adamu Idris and Titus Madaki at the end of the congress held at the party’s state secretariat in Kaduna on Monday.
The statement added that all the candidates that contested for the vacant positions were returned unopposed.
Addressing delegates, the chairman of the electoral committee, Adamu Idris, called on the new officials to ensure inclusiveness in the administration of the party and take all members along in decision making processes.
He also called for internal unity and stronger democratic structures within the party, emphasizing the need for the SDP to be cohesive and competitive ahead of future elections.
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected officials, Hon. Salihu Suleiman said the party would be strengthened under his leadership adding that efforts would be focused on building a stronger opposition across the zone.
“The aim is to improve the electoral performance of the political party and increase the chances in future elections,” he said.
Other elected officials include Rilwanu Jamo (Katsina) as Zonal Secretary, Hassan Gidan Laka (Sokoto) as Zonal Treasurer, Comrade Musa Lawan (Katsina) as Zonal Publicity Secretary and Comrade Inuwa Idris (Kaduna) as Zonal Financial Secretary.
Others are Bishop Alex Baidi as Zonal Organising Secretary, Dr Aminu Sagagi as Welfare Secretary, Garba Namodori as Auditor, Ummi Kabir as Women Leader and Murtala Jangebe as Youth Leader.
