Timini Egbuson: Hunger changed my mind about Youtube movies

Actor Timini Egbuson has reflected on his changing attitude towards YouTube movies, admitting that he once looked down on productions released through the platform.

The Nollywood star made the revelation on X, where he jokingly acknowledged that dismissing such opportunities could have affected his financial wellbeing.

“Can’t believe I was looking down on YouTube movies at some point. Hunger go don kpai me by now,” he stated.

The post has drawn attention to the growing role of YouTube in Nigeria’s film business, where online releases are becoming an increasingly important distribution option.

Egbuson, who has participated in YouTube productions, has broadened his presence beyond traditional cinema releases and mainstream streaming services.

For a long time, some industry professionals considered theatrical releases and major streaming platforms more desirable because of their perceived prestige and earning potential.

That perception is gradually changing as filmmakers use YouTube to reach wider audiences and explore different revenue opportunities.

The development has also coincided with changes in the availability of opportunities for Nigerian productions on international streaming services, prompting some filmmakers to consider alternative platforms.

Egbuson’s remarks illustrate how industry professionals are adapting to new realities and becoming more open to opportunities that may previously have been overlooked.

His comments have also contributed to conversations about the commercial value of digital film distribution in Nigeria.
