Jibrin Ibrahim, a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Democracy and Development, says there is a lot of proof that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, is biased.
Ibrahim, the head of the Premium Times Editorial Board, allegedly made this claim during an interview on ARISE Television’s “Prime Time” show.
He says that even though the INEC Chairman is new, there have been many signs of bias in a short amount of time.
Ibrahim said that Amupitan’s actions, which were aimed at the main opposition party without a legal basis, are partisan because most of the country’s top lawyers agree with him.
He said, “This shows that we have a biased person who has come to do the work of his master.” He had partisan views in the last election and made them clear on X.
“I believe that the head of INEC is still new. He’s only been in office for a short time, but we’ve already seen a lot of evidence of partisanship.
“His involvement in going after the main opposition party without a legal basis that most senior lawyers in this country find unacceptable is reason enough.”
At the same time, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) youth protested at the INEC office in Yaba, Lagos.
The protest, which took place on Monday, called for the resignation of Joash Amupitan, the head of the electoral body, according to Naija News.
The protesters held up signs that said things like “ADC is not for sale,” “Amupitan is already compromised,” and “Democracy is dialogue, not monologue.”
Adeola Olusi, the party’s national deputy youth leader, led the protest with security officers there.
On Monday, Balarabe Rufai, the party’s national youth leader, posted on 𝕏 that young people would protest in Lagos and Ogun. The protests were called “Operation Occupy INEC.”
The protest was set to start at 8 a.m. at Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech) in Lagos.
