Udenta Udenta, a political scientist and public affairs analyst, says that a presidential ticket with a strong southern candidate like Peter Obi and a reliable northern running mate could beat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

While on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Udenta, who is a founding national secretary of the Alliance for Democracy, said these things.

He said that the current political climate is good for a broad-based opposition alliance that focuses on regional balance.

He said, “Any combination today, a Peter Obi in the South and anyone else in the North, will beat Bola Tinubu in 2027.”

The professor said that Obi is the most important opposition figure in southern Nigeria and that picking a counterpart from the north would be very important for the opposition’s success.

He went on to say, “The pairing in the South is clear and obvious: Peter Obi, who is essentially in the South.”

“They have to decide who to choose in the North.”

Udenta also said that bad economic conditions could affect how people vote as the next election gets closer. This means that the ruling party may not do well if people don’t like the current government.

He went on to say, “The fact that Nigerians want Buhari to be president shows how bad the Tinubu-led government has been. As Nigerians get ready for an election, the President needs to think about more than just talking points and showmanship.

“What were we like on May 29, 2023, and what are we like now?” The answer will be clear: things are worse now than they were when Buhari was president.

“People won’t care about vague numbers about macroeconomic stability or lower inflation; hunger will speak for them. The quality of life is what really matters.

The public affairs analyst’s comments come at a time when opposition groups are still talking about the possibility of working together to get ready for the 2027 election.
