Engr. Sani Jimoh, the father of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who was allegedly shot dead by soldiers in Abuja, says that his son wanted to join the Nigerian Army.
Reports say that 24-year-old Jamiu was killed in his room in Dakwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, just weeks before he was supposed to finish his mandatory national service.
The sad father spoke at the scene of the accident on Monday and said that his son had always wanted to join the military.
“My son wanted to join the Nigerian Army, so I asked them to make his dream come true by enlisting one of his younger brothers.” “And yes, there is a need for compensation,” he said.
He also said that the family was looking for justice and help after the terrible event.
Jimoh also talked about how his son died, using an eyewitness account from inside the house.
He said, “A little girl who lived with us said she heard my son ask, ‘Who is there? Who is there?’ before they shot at his room.”
The account has made people even more worried about the events that led to the deadly shooting.
In response to the news, the Nigerian Army said that an investigation into the event was still going on.
“Investigation is still going on, as we said in our press release. “Once the investigation is over, you will be informed,” said Lt. Olawuyi Odunola, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Guards Brigade, in a conversation with one of our reporters.
The death has caused a lot of anger, and the family of the victim is asking for justice and fair compensation.
