A former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has asked the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, to desist from launching media attacks on him.
It was also gathered that Oborevwori had earlier mocked Omo-Agege for his abysmal performance in the 2023 governorship election in the state.
Omo Agege, reacting, said that he and the governor are now one family in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and had no reason to clash.
“Re-litigating the matter in the media or at public events serves no useful purpose and pleads for peace, healing and reconciliation rather than preaching vendetta,” former Senator said in a statement.
“I have been called to attention by comments said to have been made by His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, during his lecture in Lagos on “Inclusive Governance and National Unity: Lessons from Delta State for a United Nigeria,” where he cited the 2023 Delta State governorship election.
“If we were still in different political parties, I would feel compelled to respond in full measure as an adversary would. But that’s no longer the case. We are now one family in the APC. Delta APC needs unity, not disunity today.
My main task as a frontline leader of our party is to ensure victory for every APC candidate from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to our House of Assembly candidates. That promise remains inviolable.
The 2023 governorship election is now over and behind us. The Supreme Court has spoken and its decision is final . And I thoroughly respect the judgement. As a democrat, I congratulated Mr. Governor then for the now famous 360,000 votes that won him the election in 21 local government areas and I do so again now.
“Let us choose to unite, not divide. Let us choose victory, not vengeance. Unity in Delta APC must be more than talk. It has to be our strength. The past is in the rear view mirror. Now we need to look to 2027. Let us look ahead.
But I am proud of the over 240,000 votes that gave us victory in four LGAs of the Delta Central. To every Deltan who stood with me in 2023, and to each person who believed in our vision: My gratitude is eternal. And I swear to you this: I owe you and our people more than that in service.
Since May 29, 2023, my mission has been simple: to strengthen the unity of our party. I shall not yield. I humbly implore His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State and Leader of the APC in Delta State, to join me in promoting healing, reconciliation and inclusion. We must silence any voice, and any action seeking to divide us. “The only way the APC can win the Delta State for President Tinubu and win all the seats in 2027 is if the party is united.
