Ekiti governorship poll: David Mark, Aregbesola lead ADC grand finale campaign

In the same vein, the National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark and the party’s National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, yesterday led the party’s top hierarchy to Ado-Ekiti for the grand finale of campaigns ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.

The ADC leaders appealed to the people of Ekiti State to take up arms and rescue their State from what they called forces that have held the State hostage since its creation in 1996.

The party’s governorship candidate, Ambassador Dare Bejide was presented to supporters as the man who could deliver the “government of the people’s dreams.”

Speaking at the rally in Ado-Ekiti, Aregbesola bemoaned the socio-economic and political challenges facing the country, accusing the ruling APC of holding Nigeria hostage.

“Your country has been kidnapped,” Aregbesola said, accusing Nigerians of paying the price of bad governance under the APC government, in addition to the ransoms paid to bandits and terrorists.

He said that the country’s resources are being used in ways that are not in the interests of the ordinary citizens.

He called on Nigerians to vote out the ruling party in all elections, arguing that it was the responsibility of the citizens to take charge of turning the country’s fortunes around.

Senator Mark, in a message to party supporters, said the Ekiti people deserved a governor who would mirror their aspirations and provide them with good governance.

“The people of Ekiti have waited for so many years to have the governor of their dreams. Vote for your candidate in huge numbers. “I believe that with your votes we shall return here for the inauguration of the new government that will be elected,” he said.

Saturday’s governorship election sees ADC’s standard bearer, Ambassador Dare Bejide, aiming to dethrone the incumbent administration.

INEC Moves Non-sensitive Materials To 16 LGAs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the movement of non-sensitive materials for the Saturday election to the 16 Local Government Areas of the State.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, who spoke to reporters in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, said INEC, security agencies and others are well prepared for the election.

“We are here to collect the sensitive materials from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the governorship election taking place on Saturday in Ekiti state,” he said.

“I urge the people of the State to come out en-masse to vote for the candidate of their choice on Saturday and they should do so under a peaceful atmosphere. Ekiti State has been peaceful and we have assured them that we will conduct a free, fair, transparent and inclusive election.”

“Our role is to give them the opportunity to go and cast their votes and that is what we are doing, that is the process.”

CP Shogunle, the Police Commissioner for the election who also spoke on the movement and distribution of the non-sensitive materials to the councils said the materials are well secured in the hands of the security agencies.

“It is being coordinated by the Ekiti state INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner,” he said. We also have representatives from political parties, Civil Society Organisations and the media on the destruction of sensitive materials. It’s to make the process transparent.”
