The Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has appointed former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Chief Financial Officer, Mallam Isiaka AbdulRazaq, as the Tafidan Yamman Zazzau.
The appointment recognises AbdulRazaq’s contributions to community development, philanthropy, peace-building and the advancement of the Zazzau Emirate.
The confirmation was conveyed in a letter issued by the Office of the Council Secretary of the Zazzau Emirate Council and signed by the Magatakardan Zazzau, Malam Yusuf Abubakar Hayat.
The council explained that the traditional title acknowledged AbdulRazaq’s commitment to promoting peace, supporting community development and contributing to the progress of the emirate, Kaduna State and Nigeria.
AbdulRazaq, a lawyer, finance professional and public servant, had a distinguished career in Nigeria’s public sector.
He served at the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), later known as the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), where he rose to become Executive Director, Finance and Accounts.
He subsequently joined the NNPC, serving until his retirement in 2019 as Chief Financial Officer and contributing his financial expertise to the country’s energy sector.
Born in Zaria, Kaduna State, AbdulRazaq attended Barewa College, Zaria, one of Northern Nigeria’s longstanding educational institutions.
Beyond his professional career, he has participated in philanthropic activities and community initiatives aimed at improving people’s welfare.
His appointment also continues his family’s longstanding association with the Zazzau Emirate.
AbdulRazaq is the son of the late Alhaji A.G.F. AbdulRazaq, SAN, a distinguished legal practitioner and former Tafidan Zazzau, who received the traditional title in 1962.
The AbdulRazaq family has maintained longstanding ties with Zaria since the mid-1950s, sustaining its relationship with the emirate and its traditional institution.
The Emir and members of the Zazzau Emirate Council congratulated the new titleholder, expressing confidence in his ability to uphold the dignity of the office and discharge its responsibilities with integrity and dedication.
They also prayed that Almighty Allah would guide him and grant him the wisdom and strength to fulfil the expectations of the office and serve the emirate and its people successfully.
The Zazzau Emirate Council, headquartered at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria, remains committed to preserving the emirate’s traditions and cultural heritage while promoting peace, unity and sustainable community development.
