The Forum of Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants on Youth to Governors of Nigeria has thrown its weight behind Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi for the position of President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
The Forum, led by its Chairman, Hon. Eric Uwakwe, made the endorsement in a statement issued on Friday, calling on stakeholders across the country to rally support for Abdullahi.
The group described Dr. Abdullahi, who is the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria and President of DAM Foundation, as a man with uncommon passion and commitment to basketball.
According to the Forum, Abdullahi, a former basketball player and active promoter of the sport, possesses the requisite experience, knowledge and leadership capacity to drive the growth and prosperity of Nigerian basketball.
“Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi is the best choice for the President of the NBBF. He will deploy his wealth of experience, knowledge, and leadership capacity for the prosperity and development of the game,” the statement read.
The Forum also lauded the transformation and reforms Abdullahi has brought to the Energy Commission of Nigeria since his appointment, expressing confidence that he would replicate the same feat in the basketball federation.
Hon. Uwakwe therefore called on all state chapters of the NBBF and youth stakeholders across the federation to support a man he described as passionate, capable and optimistic to make a real difference.
“DAM for President will definitely bring development, infrastructure, unification, and consolidation to Nigerian basketball,” the Forum stated.
The Forum maintained that what Nigerian basketball needs at this critical time is not just a leader, but a visionary builder, adding that Abdullahi’s pedigree as an administrator and his youth-friendly disposition make him the bridge between potential and podium.
“This is a movement, not just an endorsement. With Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi as NBBF President, the future of Nigerian basketball is not only secure but golden,” the statement added.
