On April 22, 2026, the Nigerian government will hold an emergency meeting of stakeholders to stop the planned rise in airfare and the closing of airlines in Nigeria due to a 300 percent rise in JetA1 aviation fuel.

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, wrote a letter to airline operators on April 16, 2026, letting them know this.

Remember that airline operators had said they would stop flying or raise ticket prices a lot if JetA1 went up from N900 to N3000 per liter.

Keyamo told airline operators that the Nigerian government would step in to stop the sector from falling apart.

“I want to officially reassure you that the federal government is fully aware of the concerns raised by your members and will take action right away to fix the problems.

So, a high-level emergency stakeholders’ meeting has been set for Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in Abuja. All relevant stakeholders and regulatory authorities will be there to work toward a quick, practical, and long-lasting solution. We will let you know the time and place in due time.
