The country’s main seaports in Lagos have received no fewer than 12 ships delivering fuel, crude oil, fertilizer, and other necessities, indicating a rise in import activity and better cargo flow throughout the maritime industry.

The Nigerian Ports Authority’s most recent “Shipping Position” states that the ships are presently awaiting product discharge at the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Apapa Port, and Tin-Can Island Port.

Petrol, bulk fertilizer, base oil, fuel oil, gasoline, crude oil, and bulk urea, among other goods essential to Nigeria’s manufacturing, agricultural, and energy sectors, are loaded into the ships, according to the agency.
The development coincides with ongoing attempts to increase cargo throughput at the busiest ports in the country, promote industrial production, and stabilize the fuel supply.

The NPA further disclosed that between May 7 and May 15, about 34 more ships bringing food, petroleum products, and other goods are anticipated to reach the ports in Lagos.

Buckwheat, containers, fresh fish, crude oil, bulk wheat, bitumen, base oil, bulk sugar, gasoline, diesel, and miscellaneous cargoes are all being transported by the inbound vessels, according to the document.
Growing import and commercial operations at the ports were reflected in the shipping schedule’s increased container traffic activity.

In the meantime, at least 26 ships are currently emptying different kinds of goods at the ports.

Containers, gasoline, aviation fuel, crude oil, bulk gypsum, cargo trucks, bulk wheat, bulk urea, fresh fish, and bulk gas are among the goods being offloaded.

The consistent flow of ships into Lagos ports, according to industry observers, may assist reduce supply constraints in important industries, including the distribution of petroleum, agricultural, and food processing.

Additionally, it is anticipated that increased vessel traffic will improve port operations, logistics services, and government revenue from import-related activities.
