Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has responded to criticism of his administration following his re-election victory.
Oyebanji, who spoke on Sunday after being re-elected for a second term in office, was quoted to have said elections were won by performance and direct engagement with the people and not by commenting on social media.
“There are no polling units on social media,” Oyebanji added.
He likened governance to farming, saying those who sowed hard work would reap at harvest.
The farmer who has worked hard to till the ground does not interfere on the day of harvest. He said, “There are some people who have done nothing and are busy on social media.”
“Those who failed to connect with the people resorted to media attacks, online criticism,” Oyebanji said.
“If you do well, people will vote for you. But if you have nothing to say but to go to media houses to give interviews and tell lies on the government, stay on social media whipping sentiments. Yesterday was their day of reckoning,” he added.
Oyebanji had swept all the 16 local government areas in the June 20 governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said he polled 319,224 votes to defeat Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 40,543 votes.
African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s Dare Bejide came third with 12,872 votes.
INEC said 384,940 voters were accredited, 375,777 votes were valid and 6,332 rejected.
