The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced that veteran Nollywood actor, Benedict Johnson is on admission in hospital and needs surgery.

The development was confirmed on Saturday by the National President of the AGN, Abubakar Yakubu while speaking to newsmen.

The confirmation comes after public concern over a video going viral showing the actor undergoing an MRI scan.

He is undergoing medical treatment for an undisclosed health condition that requires surgery, he said.

Yakubu said the leadership of the guild was aware of the medical challenges of the actor and had promised to provide the necessary institutional support to see the successful surgical procedure.

Yes, he’s sick. Actually he is sick and needs an operation. The guild knows and we are giving him every support to ensure that he undergoes this surgery,” Yakubu added.

Johnson, who graduated from Abia State University, began his professional acting career with roles in pioneering Nollywood movies like Living in Bondage and Stolen Bible. He was a recording artist in the late 1980s before his film career.

Meanwhile, Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo’s body has finally been laid to rest amidst tears, tributes and prayers from friends and family members.

Alexx was reportedly buried in his hometown in Arochukwu, Abia State, on Thursday, June 18.

A large number of mourners including Nollywood actors and actresses from across the country turned out for the burial to pay tribute to the late actor, who had a career spanning over a decade.

Friends, family, colleagues and loved ones surrounded the late actor as he was committed to mother earth in one of the emotional moments from the burial ceremony.

The painful goodbye became a reality as mourners watched as Alexx Ekubo’s final resting place became a symbol of a life remembered and loved.
